Helen Louise Rose, affectionately known to her family and friends as Oma, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, in Austin, Texas, after a graceful journey with age and cancer. Born on August 2, 1932, in Homedale, Idaho, Helen's life was a testament to the strength and nurturing spirit she embodied throughout her 92 years.
Helen's early education took place in the halls of Homedale High School, where she laid the groundwork for a life of learning and resilience. Her journey was shared with her beloved husband, Harold Rose, who predeceased her, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication. Helen's role as a young mother in Boise, Idaho, was just the beginning of a life filled with love, commitment, and the joy of raising a family.
Her work history was as diverse as the places she called home. As Harold joined the Army, Helen embraced the life of a military spouse, moving around the world and supporting her family in every way she could. It wasn't until their retirement that she returned to the workforce, taking a position with the IRS in Austin, Texas. Yet, her most significant and cherished role was that of a mother to her four daughters, Denise Rose, Pamela Perez, Yvonne Beatty (Steve), and Vanessa Rose, and as a grandmother to her grandsons, Stephen Beatty (Margot) and Sean Beatty (Danielle), and Shane Perez (Elisabeth), and Luke Perez.
Raising four independent daughters single-handedly while Harold served two tours in Vietnam was Helen's crowning achievement. She instilled in her children the values of hard work, integrity, and self-reliance. Her home was a reflection of her high standards, and she lovingly expected her family to uphold these principles. Helen's love and guidance were the cornerstones that helped shape her daughters and grandsons into the adults they are today.
Helen's passion extended beyond her family to the outdoors, where she found solace and joy in the beauty of nature. Her yard and gardens were a source of pride and pleasure. She meticulously maintained her two-acre yard in Austin until she was 84, demonstrating a remarkable vitality and love for the land. Even after passing on the mantle of her own gardens, she continued to channel her green thumb by assisting with the gardens at her daughter's home in Colorado. Helen was known for her vigor, often seen hoeing the gardens up until the previous summer and taking delight in riding the tractor mower.
Those who knew Helen would describe her as loving, generous, and selfless. She had an innate ability to give of herself without expecting anything in return, and her generosity knew no bounds. Her selfless acts of kindness were not only reserved for her family but extended to all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with her.
As we remember Helen, we are reminded of the warmth of her embrace, the strength of her will, and the generosity of her spirit. She was a beacon of love and selflessness, a gardener of life who nurtured everyone around her. Helen's legacy will continue to flourish in the hearts of those she touched, and her memory will be cherished forever.
Helen's passing marks the end of an era, but her spirit remains a guiding light to her loved ones. Her life was a beautiful garden she tended with care, and though she is no longer with us, the seeds of her love will continue to grow for generations to come.
Helen Louise Rose will be deeply missed, yet her story of love, resilience, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Private services will be held at a later date.
