Helen M. Schnier, 83, of Dyersville, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 17, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Visitation will be held 4 - 7 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Kramer-Morris Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa. Visitation will continue from 9 – 10 a.m. at the funeral home prior to funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, Iowa with burial at St. Paul cemetery in Worthington, Iowa. Rev. Hung Le will officiate.
Helen was born November 2, 1941, in Dubuque, Iowa, daughter of Joseph and Mollie (Soppe) Besler. She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School. Helen married Richard J. Schnier on September 17, 1960 in Farley, Iowa and made their home in Worthington, Iowa. In December of 1991 they moved to Dyersville. Helen worked for 29 years at Oak Crest Manor in Dyersville until retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Dick; 4 children: Wayne (Shelley) Schnier of Peosta, Gary (Vicky) Schnier of Headland, AL, Ann (James) Brown of Enterprise, AL and Maria Elgin of Manchester; grandchildren: Ryan Schnier, Amanda (Tyler) Menhusen, Mathew (Samantha) Schnier, Briena (Nick) Rice, Beth (Lonny) Quarford, Nick Elgin, Micaela (Dustin Sternhagen) Elgin, Alissa (Alex Hashemi-Toroghi) Elgin and Tristen Biggs; great grandchildren: Avery Schnier, Meredith, Liam, and Everett Menhusen, Molli, Sophia, Amelia and Jacob Rice, Vanessa Quarford McCoy Elgin and Gabriel Biggs; siblings: Norma Butcher of Farley, Verla (Pat) Horsefield of Epworth and Theresa Gulyash of Dubuque; in-laws: Mike Knepper of Dyersville, Joan (Pete) Webber of Machesney, IL, James (Mary) Schnier of Bellevue, Mary (Ken) Mills of Holiday Island, AR, and Cathy Loecke of Dyersville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, Edwin and Armella (Deutmeyer) Schnier, daughter in law, Monique Schnier; siblings: Jean Knepper, Don (Mary) Besler, Shirley (James) Manternach; in-laws: Jim Butcher, Steve Gulyash, Lois (Richard) Nilles, Richard “Dick” Krapfl.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque and Sherry Kelchen for their care, comfort and support during this difficult time.
Memorials may be given to Beckman Catholic High School.
