Helen M. Silar

Helen M. Silar, 88 of Lewistown, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at her home. She was the loving wife of the late Eric Silar. Born on February 28, 1936 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Myrtle (Fisher) Folk. Helen graduated from Lewistown High School. She worked as a manager at the former Leader's Nursing Home in York, where she had a close relationship with the residents. Helen enjoyed keeping her hands busy by creating beautiful works of cross-stitching, ceramics, and pulling pranks. Some of her favorite memories were taking bus trips and attending NASCAR races. Most of all, Helen enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Helen is survived by 3 grandchildren, Chad and partner, Kate, Richard and wife, Carissa, and Rachel and husband, Scott; 3 great grandchildren, Chase, Jacob, Mya, and Lexi; 2 great-great grandchildren, and siblings, Cora Graham, Arthur Folk and wife, Mary Jane and Myrtle Ayres and husband, Steve. In addition to her husband and parents, Helen is preceded in death by her children, Ricky Mowery and Deborah Shaffer. A viewing will be held from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at King-Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown. The service will begin at 2 p.m. There will be a private burial at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York.
