Helen Jackson Villarta, 71, of Simpsonville, SC, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025. Born on June 9, 1954, in St. Pauls, NC, she was one of seven daughters of the late Luther and Nina Jackson. Helen was a loving wife, devoted mother, and a cherished friend to many.
Helen will be remembered for her unwavering kindness and her passion for volunteering. She was named Volunteer of the Month at Open Arms Hospice and also dedicated her time to her church, St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Helen's deep love for family was evident in everything she did; she took joy in caring for her loved ones, cooking together, and hosting gatherings. As a proud Air Force wife, she relished the experiences of being stationed in both the Philippines and California, which shaped her love for life and community.
In addition to her family, Helen had a soft spot for her pets and found joy in playing computer games during her leisure time. Her humble demeanor and selflessness always uplifted those around her, and she took pride in being a source of support for her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Moises C. Villarta; two daughters, Amanda and her husband Neal Gragg, and Marissa and her husband Ryan Borth; her stepdaughter Ivy Whitehouse and stepson Lyle Villarta; and four sisters, Faye Cottrill, Rachel Pincince, Jean Carroll, and Myrtle Guadaskas.
A Vigil will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast followed by a time of visitation until 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 21st, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Open Arms Hospice, 1836 W Georgia Rd., Simpsonville, SC 29680 in Helen's memory, continuing her legacy of compassion and care for others.
Helen will be dearly missed but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
