Obituary of Helene A. Gorman

Helene A. (LaCasse) Gorman, 93, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026. She was the wife of the late Richard F. "Dickie" Gorman who passed away in 2022.

Born and raised in Woburn, she was the only child of the late Patrick J. LaCasse, and the late Selena (Stenberg) LaCasse. Helene was a graduate of Woburn Schools, growing up in East Woburn.

In March of 1934 at the age of two, accompanied by her mother she flew to the west coast to visit her farther Patrick LaCasse who was stationed on the USS Marblehead. She set a 9000 mile Air Mark for the first baby to travel by air from Boston to San Francisco.

Helene worked for a time at John Hancock, and later for Raytheon in Bedford. She left the workforce to raise her sons, and returned in the 1990s to work for the Woburn School Lunch Program at the former Clapp Elementary School in the South End.

She enjoyed attending Woburn Historical Society presentations. Helene and her late husband were animal lovers, and had several cats who they adored. Helene enjoyed vacationing with her family at her camp on Grand Lake stream, Maine. She loved taking pictures of family and friends at camp and evening sunsets. At camp, her and Dickie would enjoy taking ATV rides and going to the Grand Lake Stream 4th of July parade. After Dickies passing she purchased a Honda side by side ATV that she enjoyed exploring parts of Grand Lake Stream and having picnics at various locations around the lake.

Helene was preceded in death by her husband of over 65 years, the late Richard F. "Dickie" Gorman. She is survived by her two sons, Richard Gorman of Woburn, and Keith Gorman and his girlfriend Dani Dow; all of Woburn. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews on her husband's side of the family.

Private services will take place at a later date. Arrangements by the Graham Funeral Home, Woburn. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Helene's memory may be made to the MSPCA, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130 (www.mspca.org)
