BEDFORD, NH – Helene Louise Mackin, age 80, passed away on Thursday October 2, 2025 at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester, New Hampshire. She was surrounded by her loving family and special friends.
Helene was born on November 16, 1944 in
Utica, NY, the daughter of the late Oren W. and Helen Price Fuller. She attended and graduated from Utica Free Academy. She lived in Utica and worked at the Slocum Dickson medical office until moving to Richfield Springs after marrying Brian R. Mackin on July 8, 1972 at Saint Joseph and Saint Patrick Church, Utica. There she spent a blessed union of forty-nine years with Brian until his death on January 6, 2022.
Helene was known for her love of horses, her vast gardens, as well as her talented crocheting and crafting. Her house was always decorated well in advance for the holiday seasons, and she loved to make holiday crafts and decorations to share with the local elementary students over the years. Most of all, Helene will be remembered for her kindness. She treated those around her with respect and empathy regardless of their circumstance, always found to have extra toys in her purse to entertain bored children at family gatherings. Helene, a retired dairy farmer, was also known for her great compassion towards animals, welcoming many stray animals into her home throughout the years.
Besides her parents and husband Brian, she was preceded in death by her brother Robert Cullen, and a sister June Adaszczyk. She is survived by her beloved cat, Mr. Kitty (aka Red), her loving daughter Nancy Ann Lamon and her husband Daniel of Bedford, NH, three grandchildren: Amanda, Samuel, and Jaxen Lamon, her sister-in-law Maria Mackin and her husband David Carter of Scottsville, NY, her sister-in-law Annette Mackin and her husband Gary Bagley of Hilton, NY, her sister Catherine Mackin and her husband Leo of Richfield Springs, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Helene's friends, including Garrett Robinson and Matt Seamon, for their support and uplifting Helene's spirits over the years after the passing of Brian. They would also like to thank Jen Winters for the wonderful care she provided to Helene, as well as the numerous aids, especially Virginia Farrington and Maria Wright, that kept her comfy, smiling, and entertained with numerous horse shows while at The Elms Center in Milford, NH.
Helene was a former religious education teacher and a member at St. Joseph the Worker Church, Richfield Springs.
A graveside service for Mrs. Mackin will take place on Monday October 27, 2025 at 11:00am in St. Joseph Cemetery Richfield Springs.
Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs.
