Ms. Helyn C. Bolanis OP, 74, of Sylvania, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of her daughter, Nichole D. Baker, in Pasadena, California. She was born on December 26, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, to Charles and Joan Bolanis. Helyn was baptized October 10, 1953, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Detroit, Michigan. She made her Profession of Faith, May, 1981, to become a member of the Roman Catholic Church.

Helyn was a lay Dominican member of the fraternity of St Catherine of Siena #603, Columbus, Ohio. She made her right of reception in 2023, and her perpetual promises February 2025.

"The laity of Saint Dominic are those faithful who, baptized in the Catholic Church, or received into her, confirmed, and in full communion of faith, sacraments, and ecclesiastical governance, are called by a special vocation to progress in the Christian way of life and to animate temporal things through the care of Saint Dominic "

Helyn was a member of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Sylvania, where she served has a lector and extraordinary minister of the Blessed Sacrament. Her civic commitment included being a member of the Rotary Club of Toledo and has served as its president in 2008-09. Continuing her Service above Self, she served as the Rotary district governor for district 6600 in 2011-12. Being a lifelong member of the Republican party was highlighted by her attendance to the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump in Washington DC in January 2025.

Helyn founded Parlan Financial Corporation April 18, 1988, as a fee-only financial planning firm that served clients throughout the United States. She remained the President and CEO of Parlan until its sale in 2025.

Helyn is survived by her daughter, Nichole; Larry's mother, Donna Parker; and son, Steven; brothers, Peter Bolanis, Charles Bolanis; sisters and brother by marriage; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and special friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Christne Baker; parents, Charles and Joan Bolanis; and former husbands, Larry Parker and John Baker.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 25, from 2:00-6:00 p.m., and Monday, January 26, from 2:00-8:00 p.m., in Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH 43623, where a Vigil for the Deceased, including the recitation of the Holy Rosary and a sharing of memories, will begin at 7:00 p.m., on Monday.

The Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Joseph J. Mominee, at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church, 5411 Main St., Sylvania, OH 43560, at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 27, 2026. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, 15 East Manhattan St., Toledo.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to: Fraternity of Saint Dominic, St. Catherine of Siena fraternity # 603, Saint Patrick's Church, 260 N. Grant Ave., Columbus, OH 43215. Checks made out to Saint Patrick's church and in the memo line LFSD.
