Hem Dutt Sharma

On August 12, 2024, at the age of 81, Hem Dutt Sharma left this world peacefully in Modesto, California. Born on October 15, 1942, in the Fiji Islands, Hem Dutt's journey through life was marked by resilience, love, and a deep connection to his roots. He spent his formative years in F.S.C. Lane, Penang, Fiji, before marrying his beloved wife, Kushma Sharma, on May 6, 1972, in Navua, Fiji Islands. In 1991, seeking new horizons, he moved his family to Modesto, California, where they built a new life together.
Hem Dutt was a man of many talents and interests. He began his career as lab analyst at Fiji Sugar Corporation in Fiji Islands, a role that showcased his analytical mind and dedication to his work. After relocating to Modesto, he embraced a new path as a cook, which was a testament to his adaptability and willingness to embrace change. His varied career reflects the diverse skills and determination that defined his life.
Beyond his professional achievements, Hem Dutt was a passionate individual with a love for collecting stamps and golfing. His hobbies brought him joy and provided a glimpse into the richness of his character. A devoted member of the Hindu Community Temple, Hem Dutt's spiritual life was a cornerstone of his existence. He actively participated in community activities, always willing to lend a hand and support those around him. His faith was a guiding light, inspiring his actions and interactions throughout his life.
Hem Dutt leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kushma; his children, Kapeel and Ranjana; his daughters-in-law, Saileshni and Beth; his son-in-law, Deven; and his cherished grandchildren, Alex, Kiran, Kavish, and Ranveer. He is also survived by his brothers, Papa Khan and Richard; his sisters, Monika, Shomika, and Anita; and his brother-in-law, Raj Kumar.
A funeral service to celebrate Hem Dutt's life will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. This gathering will be an opportunity for family and friends to reflect on the impact he made on their lives and to honor the enduring spirit that characterized Hem Dutt Sharma.
