After enlisting in the Army straight out of high school, Henry dedicated his career to working as an Electronic Technician for Huron Portland Cement. His work was not just a job but a part of who he was-a man who valued hard work, precision, and the camaraderie of his colleagues. His contributions were not limited to his professional life; Henry was also an active member of the Alpena Moose Lodge, where he formed many lasting friendships.
Henry's heart was always fullest when surrounded by his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Janet, and their children, Larry (Sheryl) Bloom, Lori (Bruce) Reiffer, and Keith (Amy) Bloom. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Logan Bloom, Megan (Jake) Hogsten, Mandy Reiffer, Natalie Reiffer, Chandler (Jamie) Bloom, Allie Bloom, Logan Ogilvie, Ava Ogilvie, and his great-granddaughter, Leah Bloom. Each of them will carry forward the values and lessons he instilled through his example. Henry was preceded in death by his sister, Edna Kober.
An avid outdoorsman, Henry found solace and joy in woodworking, fishing, and camping. He had a special connection with nature, which was evident to anyone who joined him out on the lake or visited his hobby farm. His hands were rarely still, as he was always creating, fixing, or tending to something that needed his attention.
Henry and Janet were also known as snowbirds, making their annual pilgrimage to Texas to escape the northern chill. Their adventures south were filled with warmth, both in climate and companionship, as they cherished the time spent with friends old and new. Those who knew Henry will remember a man of few words but immense heart. He will be dearly missed.
A celebration of Henry's life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 from 4pm – 6pm at McWilliams Funeral Home.
