Henry CARROLL Obituary

CARROLL, Henry "Leo" 6/22/1924 – 2/22/2026

A true gentleman of the old school, Leo Carroll was born, raised and educated in Cambridge. He served his country in the First Marine Division during World War II, seeing active duty in Okinawa. Leo was part of the team that repatriated the Japanese from China immediately after the war and was one of the first Westerners to enter the Forbidden City.

Taking advantage of the GI Bill, he studied watch repair and opened Leo Carroll Jewelers in 1948. At the same location for over 75 years, the store has been a place where many generations of customers have returned to this family business for its integrity, candor and honesty. Carrying on this tradition, the store continues to be managed by his son, Sean and his wife, Irene.

Leo was a lifelong learner and renaissance man; an early adopter of all things technological, an artist, sailor, skier, collector of rocks, gardener, avid reader and a student of history. He was an extraordinary friend, a kind and generous spirit, excellent conversationalist and all in all – a wonderful person.

Leo was the loving partner of Helen Abrams for 37 years; beloved father of Lorraine and her husband, Martin, his late son, Paul, Sean and his wife, Irene. Proud grandfather of Matthew and Sarah. Husband of the late Marjorie Carroll. Loving uncle to many nephews and nieces.

Relatives and friends are invited to Visiting Hours at the Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut St., ARLINGTON, on Wednesday, February 25, from 4-7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, at Saint Raphael's Church, on Thursday, at 12 pm. A Visitation prior to Mass will take place in church from 11 am to 12 pm. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or to the charity of your choice.

To Leo - my condolences to you and your family on your father's passing. I know he was honored by the City of Cambridge, and he passed on his "kind and generous spirit" to you and Irene. May his memory be a blessing to all. Carol
