Henry Charles Firebear

Henry Charles Firebear was born September 2, 1952, to Lula Mae Horse and Lester Jefferson in Crow Agency. Henry was raised by his grandparents. He often spoke of his days and one of his goals was to go to the national finals. Henry always had a story to tell to make people laugh. Henry graduated from Flandreau Indian High School in 1970 in South Dakota. Shortly after he graduated, he enlisted in the Marines and was later honorably discharged.

Henry lived a good life and had very good jobs, like construction, tribal police, and was part of the BIA. He loved working and worked many jobs.

Henry wasn't just a dad, husband, brother, uncle, and grandpa; he was a hero. Everything that he went through, good or bad, he always had a smile. He loved talking, telling stories, and making jokes. Even if you were sad, he always made you laugh; it was contagious.

In 1985, Henry got married to his wife, Edith Wolfblack. They made a great home in Busby. Henry had kids he loved: Wesley, Sarah, Verna, Jamesey, Jaron, and Jamyn. He stepped in to be there as a parent for his sister-in-law's children. He loved his family, and he made sure they had food on the table and a roof over their head.

He loved playing the guitar and singing in church, but most of all, he loved hunting with his kids. He took in three of his grandchildren and raised them as his own: Kenyan, Azrael, and Rilee Firebear. He often talked about all the things he accomplished in life to his grandkids, and he showed his family that church and the Bible were the main priority and way of life. He loved singing gospel music in church.

Henry cherished his life. He lived for his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. He always made sure they never went without anything; he loved them dearly. Henry lived and fought his last remaining years with his family in Busby until his illness got the best of him.

Preceding him in death were his mother Lula Mae Horse, his grandma Rose, his daughters Crystal and Lucy, and his son Henry Charles Jefferson, Jr.

Henry is survived by his wife Edith, his children Sarah, Wesley, Jamyn, Jamesey, Jaron, Verna, Kenyan, Rilee, and Azrael; his grandchildren Crystal, Kenya, Zendaya, Jalyn, Thomas, Stormee, Baby Wes, Ezrey, James, and John; his bother Joe Cornellious and Dennis; his sisters Wilma and Violet; his nieces and nephews Rachel Risingsun, Becky, JR, Isaiah, Charity, Savannah, and Blaine Limberhand.

This is who he lived for; he loved his family.
