Robert Mitchell Brien Jr., age 56 of Lodge Grass, Mt. went to the other side camp on August 23, 2025. Apsaalooke iisaàkshikaate "Crow Boy" given to him by John Topan of Oklahoma was born April 1,1969 to Robert Brien Sr. and Georgia J Not Afraid-Little Nest. He was a member of the Crow Tribe. He was a Piegan and child of the Big Lodge clan. He was raised by his maternal grandmother Ethel Morrison-Not Afraid. Upon her passing was then raised by his aunt Melvina Jefferson, his uncle and aunt Edward and Shirley Not Afraid at Sioux Pass Ranch. He received his education in Lodge Grass residing with his mother and stepfather Georgia & John B. Little Nest and his aunt and uncle Bertha and Paul Nomee Jr. He then attended Kicking Horse Job Corp. at Ronan, Mt. He met the love of his life Kathleen "Kathy" Walker in high school and in this union had 5 children. They made their home in Lodge Grass next door to his Grandmother Emma Beads Don't Mix and later moved to Billings, Mt. Robert had numerous jobs; he was a jack of all trades from being a grounds keeper at Yellowstone National Park with his wife, BIA wild lands firefighting, Crow tribe, AML, security, construction work, bus driving, to working in various restaurants with his son. Robert was a very skilled artist. He loved to tattoo everyone who would let him. He was known for his humour, pranks, and story telling whether it was true or not. The best prank was when he would insert firecrackers in his mom and auntie mom's cigarettes. Robert loved listening to rock n' roll music. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, hiker, and loved the outdoors especially the mountains. Most of all he loved his children and grandchildren.
Robert was a well-known traveler. He made friends wherever he went. He was kind, thoughtful, and had the biggest heart. Everyone he encountered enjoyed his company and was always the life of the party.
Robert is preceded in death by his son D'Artagnon, his parents Robert Brien Sr., Georgia and John Bernard Little Nest.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years Kathy. His children: Kathanna (LyDale) Nomee, Tarik, Vohn-Ryan (Violet), and Archer Brien. His grandchildren: A'relia, Joshua Jr., Raidyn, Llyanna, Fernelle, Aerro, Xanthippi, Tailey Mae, Tarik Jr., Tamia, and Tazzy. His adopted children: Arthur Villegas, Shay Don't Mix, Joshua Long Tail, Evander and Gregory Old Bull Jr., and Kiana Stewart. His sisters: Hannah (Thomas) Smart, Mishella and Leah Brien, Berthina Nomee, Marcia Not Afraid, Janice (Henry) Speelman, Ethel (Alex) Madill, Eliza (Jared) Stewart, Joy Buckley, Cindy (Melvin) Small, Martha (Aaron) Alden, Jolene (Vernon) White Clay, Anne Old Crow, Edwina Smith, Ginger (Peter) Ornelas, Susan White Shirt, Regina (Leonard) Bends, Linda (Duane) Birdinground, Myrna (Fred) Small, Marie Jefferson, Olive LaForge, Christina Not Afraid. His brothers: Johnny (Whitney) Little Nest, Bill Old Crow, Les and Dee Nomee, Wayne (Cathy), CJ (Jana), Edward (Tammy), AJ (Deneen) Not Afraid, Knute (Dareldlene) Old Crow, Newton (Georgette) Old Crow Jr., Carlton (Lori) Nomee, Joseph (Tilli) Bear Cloud Jr., Manuel Pretty On Top, George Little Light Sr., Allie Little Light, Manford (Lorilee) Gardner, Donald Gardner Jr., Ellis Rides Horse, Eddie (Alfredine) Brien Sr., Meyers (Vera) Brien Sr., Landon Old Chief, Everette "Pumpkin" Brien, Harry Dean Brien, Charlie (Samantha) Brien, Cedar (Kat) Brien, Colton Springfield, Travis Brien, Addikin Stewart. All his nieces and nephews. His uncles and aunts: Woodrow (Gladys) Brien, Alvin Not Afraid Sr., Francis, William, and Joshua Springfield, Garnet Watan, Beth Old Chief, and Mary Springfield. His grandmothers: Agatha (Bruce) House and Mary Helen Medicine Horse. Extended families include: Brien, Not Afraid, Morrison, Fredricks, Shakespear, Yarlott, Springfield, Beads Don't Mix, Red Wolf, Plainfeather, Alden, Backbone, DeCrane, Goes Ahead, Iron Horse, Old Horn, Cummins, Hugs, Humphrey, Pretty On top, Looks at the Top, Medicine Tail, Real Bird, Plenty Hawk, Black Hawk, Well Known, Shoots his Foot. He leaves an extended family and circle of friends too numerous to mention; if we have forgotten you, please excuse us during our grief.
