Henry Elton Grimes

Henry Elton "Hank" Grimes, 72, of Winfield, formerly of Arkansas City, died Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at William Newton Hospital.

Hank was born August 24, 1954, to Joseph Henry Grimes and Sarrah Emma (Morgan) Grimes in Arkansas City. He was raised in Arkansas City alongside his sister Carolyn. Hank was raised to be very independent and faced life and its challenges with a determined , positive attitude, his faith and family guiding him. He was a big man with a big personality and a big heart. From the 1980s until his retirement in 2022, he attended the vocational training program through Twin Rivers Developmental Supports. He met the love of his life, Mary Ruth Halstead, in the same decade, and they married after many years of dating on December 14, 2007. He loved his family, the Lord, Scooby Doo, ketchup, and the Dallas Cowboys.

Hank expressed his love for those he cared about through drawing and crafting.

Hank was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Carolyn Westenfeld, and brother-in-law, Vernon Westenfeld.

Cremation has been effected

He is survived by his wife, Mary; nieces, Amanda Evinger (Mike), Amanda Westenfeld, Sarrah Metzinger (Garrett); Great Niece Lily (Eli) Evinger; and great Nephews Landan (Taylor) and Karston Evinger, Thomas, Benjamin, Jacob, and Caleb Metzinger. As well as close family friends, Sandi Stickel, Tonya Kendrick (Mark), Jeremy Stickel (Amanda), and Shirley Booe.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 20th, at Northside Baptist in Arkansas City, followed by a private burial at Parker Cemetery in Parkerfield, Kansas.
