Henry Jackson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hartnett Funeral Home on Jan. 19, 2026.
Henry Clay Jackson "Hank" was born on June 15, 1947, to the late Nathaniel, Sr. and the late Esther Gaillard Jackson in St. Matthews, S.C. He peacefully departed this life on January 12, 2026, after an extended illness. Hank was educated in the Calhoun and Orangeburg County school districts of S.C. He received Christian education at Bethel A.M.E. Church in St. Matthews, S.C. and later at Emmanuel A.M.E. Church in Harlem, N.Y. Henry Clay went on to serve in the U.S. Army then worked at The New York Telephone Company for many years after which he became a local truck driver until his retirement. Hank married the love of his life Barbara Jones-Jackson who, one year ago, preceded him in death after 40+ years of marriage. Also preceding him in death are sisters Ann Branch and Estelle Sims, brothers Nathaniel, Jr., Ricky, and David.

Henry Clay leaves to cherish his memories: 2 stepsons, Scott Hooks (Dr. Shannon Marquez) and Keith Jones; granddaughter Alisha Francis (Dewayne); brother Walter Jackson (Jacquelin), sister Marilyn Jackson-Galbreath (Lennon); half-siblings Louise Garrison and Irvin Greene (Annette), uncle Thaddeus Gaillard and aunt Clarene Gaillard; two sisters in law Allene Jackson and Lizzie Jackson and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Hank really loved dancing and all sports but was a loyal New York Giants fan. He enjoyed participating in intellectual discussions, especially politics of the day.
