It is with a mixture of deep sorrow and joyful remembrance that we announce the passing of Henry "Sonny" T. Kitzman, affectionately known as Ted, on May 18, 2025. Ted was born on December 7, 1932, in Orange, and he took his final bow in Keansburg, at the age of 92, surrounded by the love of his family.
Predeceased by his parents, Henry and Beatrice Kitzman, his cherished wife Marian Kitzman in 1979, his son Theodore Joseph Kitzman in 1958, his brother William Kitzman in 2012, and his sister Betty McFeeley in 2016, Ted's legacy and memory are carried on by his adoring family. He is survived by his loving daughters and son-in-law, Nancy Sharkey of Keansburg, Sharon and Jim Graham of Hazlet, and Jacquie McCarthy of Keansburg. His sisters, Diane Bergen (Jim) of Manchester, and Carol Codner of Westville, who will fondly remember their brother's humor and warmth. Ted was the proud patriarch of five generations. His life was enriched by his four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and also his great-great grandson who will miss their grandfather's enchanting stories and tricks.
A special note of gratitude is extended to Jim, who not only became Ted's son-in-law but also a true son in spirit. Jim's dedication, love, and care for Ted in his later years stand as a testament to the strength and closeness of their bond.
After serving in the US National Guard, Ted embarked on a whimsical career as a self-employed entertainer. He brought joy and laughter to many as a magician and a clown, captivating audiences far and wide. His passion for the art of illusion and humor earned him a place in the Leroy Talman Bosco Ring Union 123. Ted also contributed his creative spirit to the Art Alliance Studio and Gallery in Red Bank and was a proud member of the American Legion Post #273, where his fellow veterans became a second family.
Ted's interests extended beyond his performance career. He was a perennial presence at Ocean Grove, where he relished the sunlight and melodies that danced on the ocean breeze. A raconteur at heart, Ted could often be found recounting tales from his colorful past, engaging friends and strangers alike in his rich history and experiences. His love for the simple pleasures in life was evident to all who knew him. He never missed an opportunity to perform an impromptu magic trick or lend a helping hand, washing windows at local businesses without any thought of payment, simply to brighten someone's day.
Above all, Ted valued time with his family. They were the audience he cherished most, the ones who he loved to entertain and with whom he shared his deepest affections. His favorite nephew, Timmy, along with numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members, will all hold onto the precious memories of laughter and love that Ted so freely gave.
Ted's life was a tapestry of joyful moments, shared stories, and an unyielding commitment to bringing happiness to others. He has left an indelible mark on this world, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who were fortunate enough to cross his path.
As we say farewell to this remarkable man, we invite all those who knew Ted to reflect on the magic he brought into our lives. His spirit, like his tricks, will remain an enigmatic and delightful memory, never to be forgotten. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals Inc., 233 Carr Avenue, Keansburg. A religious service will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home, which will conclude the services, and a private cremation will follow.
