Henry "Bud" Lundberg Jr., age 85, of
Hitterdal, MN, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at his home, under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Henry Walter Lundberg Jr., the son of Henry Sr. and Inez (Lamon) Lundberg, was born at his family's home in rural Clay County, on October 5, 1938. As a very young child, they moved to the Hitterdal community where his parents farmed. As he attended school in Hitterdal, Bud made lifelong friends with his seven classmates and was even crowned homecoming king of the class of 1957. Following graduation, Bud enlisted in the United States Army National Guard. He later transitioned to the Air National Guard, proudly serving as a Happy Hooligans for many years.
While cruising along Broadway in Fargo, ND, a pretty girl driving a nice car caught Bud's attention. He quickly met the girl, Connie Blumhardt, who became the love of his life. The couple was united in marriage on March 3, 1962, in Fargo, ND and they made their home in Moorhead, MN. After five years of working full time with the guard and commuting daily to milk on the family farm, they decided to relocate back to his homeplace in Hitterdal. Bud officially took over the dairy operation and farmed while they raised their family. They were blessed with three sons and three daughters. Bud was an active father and enjoyed being a part of his children's daily lives. Their door was open and became a second home to many. The family had various animals on the farm to keep busy with and friends were always welcome to stop by. In the late 1980's, Bud decided to return to the guard to finish out the remaining time of his 22-year military career. By that time, they had sold the milk cows and their children were nearly grown so Bud kept some beef cattle and continued farming until renting out the land 11 years ago.
During his retirement years, Bud loved to watch the fieldwork and see the harvest come in. Bud was a familiar face in town and avidly supported local events. They attended many sporting events, church functions, fundraisers, and family gatherings. One of Bud's very favorite things was to meet his buddies at the Ulen Senior Center each morning and shake dice for coffee. Bud and Connie made 30 fun filled trips to Sturgis, SD, seeing the countryside on his motorcycle. Bud was also an avid hunter, chasing both game birds and big game animals whenever he had the time to get away. Above all, Bud cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa. He spent as much time as he could with family and their memories will be treasured forever.
Bud is survived by his wife, Connie of Hitterdal; three daughters: Duchelle (Bill) McCormick of Berthoud, CO, Denelle (Rick) Dauner of Moorhead, and Desiree (Eric )Nelson of Fargo; one son, Darcy (Leah) Lundberg of Moorhead; 11 grandchildren: Kali, Derek, Lexi, Kenzie, Jack, Lily, Daryn, Cristian, Olivia, Madelyn, and Brayden; and two great grandchildren, Karson and Kacey; as well as two brothers, Warren (Roxanne) Lundberg of Fargo and Claire Lundberg of
Aurora, MN; two sisters, Loretta Pfau of Moorhead, and Lorraine (Wallace) Solwold of Moorhead; and four sisters-in-law: Sandra Theis of
Ulen, MN, Marlyce (Larry) Kowalke of Audubon, MN, Sylvia (Elroy) Haats of
