Henry R. McCaffrey, Sr., "Hank," of Philadelphia, passed away on January 12th at the age of 81. He was the beloved husband of Gloria Jean (nee Marino); devoted father of Henry McCaffrey, Jr. (Barb), Paul McCaffrey (Cathy), Peter McCaffrey (Patty), and Donna Wybranski (Stan); loving Pop-pop of Caitlin (Jared), Christopher (Emily), Sara, Jarod, Michael, Eddie, Mya, Matthew and David; and cherished great-grandfather of Ryan. Hank was also a loving brother to Theresa, Timothy, and René. He was predeceased by his siblings Daniel, Jr., Joseph, Michael, Mary, and Patrick.
Hank was born and raised in Philadelphia by his parents Daniel and Theresa. He grew up in Holy Child Parish, where he attended school, before graduating from Cardinal Dougherty High School, Class of 1961. After graduation, Hank worked for the railroad, owned his own service station as an auto mechanic, and later joined the Philadelphia Fire Department in 1973. He dedicated his life to serving his city and community, ultimately retiring as a Lieutenant in 2007. Additionally, Hank volunteered with the Knights of Columbus, earning the rank of 4th-degree Knight.
Outside of his career, Hank enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was known for his kindhearted and generous nature, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are invited to Hank's Life Celebration on Monday, January 20th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the John F. Givnish Funeral Home, 10975 Academy Rd., Philadelphia, PA 19154, and on Tuesday, January 21st from 9:00 – 10:00 AM at Presentation BVM Church, 100 Old Soldiers Rd, Cheltenham, PA 19012. A funeral mass will follow at 10:00 AM. Interment services will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham, PA.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Henry's name to the Philadelphia Fire Department Widow's fund, at https://www.iaff22.org/DonateAmount.aspx
