Belleville, Illinois - Henry Nersesian, 94, of Belleville, passed away peacefully December 26, 2025, with his children, Neil and Julie, by his side.
He was born December 10, 1931, in East St. Louis, Illinois, the son of Seragan and Yranouhe (Amershadian) Nersesian, immigrants to the United States following the 1915 Armenian Genocide. His mother, infant sister and brother, Vaskan, died when he was young, and he was raised by his father. He graduated from East St. Louis High School.
Henry proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a yeoman during the Korean War, and he cherished being able to travel with fellow veteran to Washington D.C. on the 2024 St. Louis Honor Flight. After his service, he founded Bridgedale Cleaners in Cahokia, operating the business for 60 years. His cleaners were known for their extended hours, free delivery and exceptional service.
He married the late Amie Marifian in 1958, the first wedding held at Holy Shoghagat Armenian Church in East St. Louis. They were married 62 years until her passing in 2020. They were founding members of the church and active supporters throughout their lives. Together they enjoyed tennis, traveling, Cardinals baseball, dancing, card games, family gatherings and welcoming everyone into their home - especially for Henry's barbecue and coleslaw.
He was a devoted supporter of his church, serving on the Parish Council and Armenian Church Youth Organization and assisting with church construction, maintenance, bake sales, picnics and dances.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Amie; parents; infant sister and brother; and other beloved family members.
Surviving is his son, Neil Nersesian of Salt Lake City; daughter and son-in-law Julie and Joshua Wiegers of Belleville; grandchildren Davis Nersesian, James Wiegers, Laurel Garcia (Roman) and Madeline Keen (Austin); great-grandchildren Winnie, Leo, Scout, Sunny and Evie; brothers-in-law John Marifian and George Marifian (Nina); sister-in-law Julie Matoesian; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorials may be made to Holy Virgin Mary & Shoghagat Armenian Church.
Visitation will be held on January 8, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Kassly Mortuary Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.
Funeral service will be held on January 9, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Virgin Mary & Shoghagat Armenian Church, 400 Huntwood Road, Belleville, IL. Officiated by the Rev. Fr. Yeprem Kelegian. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
