Henry J. Pinter, Sr., 97, passed away peacefully at home, on Sunday, December 7, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born on October 17, 1928, in Ream, WV, he was the son of Croatian immigrants, John and Mary (Grguric) Pinter. He attended Gary High School, where he excelled at sports, making the All-Area Basketball Team in 1947. Henry served honorably during the Korean War as a Corporal in the U.S. Army.
Following his military service, he worked at US Steel for over 30 years, and he also worked independently as an electrician.
Throughout his life, Henry enjoyed spending time with his family most of all. He found joy in the simple things in life, and no one ever enjoyed a good meal as much as he did. A great dancer, Henry especially loved to Polka, and he thoroughly enjoyed country and Croatian music. Still an athlete at heart, he was an avid sports fan. After raising his family in
Welch, WV, he spent his retirement years in Myrtle Beach, where he found great pleasure in woodworking, creating beautiful furniture pieces for his family and friends, as well as tending to his vegetable garden.
Henry was a member of the American Legion and the Croatian Fraternal Union, where he served as Secretary of Lodge #2 (formerly Lodge #416) for many years. A devoted Catholic, he attended daily Mass and lived as a man of great faith.
He is survived by the love of his life, Mary (Yanesh) Pinter. Their 68-year marriage is a testament to faith, devotion, and enduring love.
Also surviving are his 6 children: Henry J. Pinter, Jr. (Andrea), Patrick A. Pinter (Diana), Rosemary Jarvis (Tony), Victoria Poprocky (Edward), Paul A. Pinter (Dawn) and Mary Frances Odom (Joel), his beloved 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, his twin sister, Mary McCray, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Eva and Josie, and brothers, Joe, John, George, and Tony.
Henry's family is deeply grateful for all the wonderful care providers who have touched their lives. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the
