Henry Simpson Obituary

Surrounded by loving family and friends, Henry "Hank" Littrell Simpson passed away peacefully at home on March 9 after a brief illness. Hank was born in Baton Rouge on September 13, 1958. He attended Episcopal High School where he was active in sports, and later attended University of the South where he earned a degree in economics. Hank worked the majority of his career in the insurance business and spent several years in San Antonio and Houston before moving back to Baton Rouge in 2013. Through the years, he enjoyed participating in sports, especially football and baseball and was an avid Houston Astros fan. He also enjoyed listening to live music, playing the guitar, cooking, and collecting guitars. Hank was fun-loving and young at heart. He had a unique sense of humor and deeply loved being with close friends and family. He was preceded in death by his father Calvin Littrell Simpson, and mother Carolyn Neal Simpson of Houston. He is survived by his daughters Emily Grace Simpson of Ada Oklahoma, and Annabel Carolyn Simpson of Houston; brother Neal Allen Simpson and his wife Mary Ann of Houston; and cousin James Henry Simpson III and his wife Mary Claire of Atlanta. He is also survived by Nina Core Miller, whom he referred to as "the love of his life," and her daughter Camille Miller Cavin and her husband Conner Cavin. Hank and Nina enjoyed many happy years together, attending LSU football games with friends, searching for treasures at estate sales, and grilling steaks in their backyard overlooking a small private lake. Stella, their lab mix, was never far away eager to play and fetch her ball. Nina extends special appreciation to friends Pat and Les Rainey, Ninette Perry, and Gay Lazare, who were always there to help during Hank's illness. Thank you to the wonderful and caring hospice nurses, Sonya and Ingrid, from Audubon Hospice Center. A celebration of Hank's life will be held on March 23, 2024.

Mr. Hank, words cannot express how much your girls miss you! You are the missing puzzle piece in their lives. The love you showed Camille and Nina was unmatched and you showed us how a man loves a woman the correct way. Continue to watch over your loved ones and show that you´re still here!

My departed Husband, it´s been a year since you´ve gone and much has happened. Emily happily continues to teach the University students from around the world. She´s a tireless advocate at the University making changes for the student body. She´s engaged to the smartest man who adores her and they are getting married on your parents wedding anniversary. Annabel loves her position serving Harris County residents. She loves her court and her position. Grandfather Hugh always said that if you love what you do you never work a day in your life. She and her husband are so in love. You would have loved his family and I know they would have loved you, too.
I tell our children all the time how proud you are of them.
I miss you. You left too soon but left behind a great legacy, our girls - Dr Emily Simpson and Officer Annabel Simpson.

Just finding out about this and am heart-broken. Just missed Hank at Sewanee but knew him via our fraternity Lambda Chi Alpha. What a terrific spirit this man had! What a loss for our world. God´s Peace to his family and friends.

Sending sympathy and warmest wishes to Hanks, family and friends. Hank was my second cousin and I always enjoyed seeing him on my trips to see his mother, Carolyn.

Hank and I were friends for literally a half a century. From the days of Camp Attakapas to intermittent times in college hundreds of miles away, we lost touch when I left in the military as a young man but reconnected after he moved back to Baton Rouge. He had quite the broad vision and experience- from sports to literature to theatre. But kindness above all along with his humor. A real empty space for those of us left behind

The few times that I met Hank, I knew he was funny, caring and a special person in my cousin Nina´s life. I pray for his family and friends to be comforted at the loss of such a great guy. Chloë Coombe

Mr Simpson was a long-term substitute at our school, and one of my favorite memories of him was when he sang Waltzing Matilda with our class. He was so sweet; he taught us important life skills and we will miss him dearly.
