Henry Vigor Obituary
Born in East Cleveland, Henry grew up in Brecksville and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and enjoyed his two years of service in the Panama Canal Zone. Upon discharge, he attended the Thunderbird School of International Business in Arizona, which launched his life-long career in the Latin America region.
Henry moved to Chicago where he met Karen. They were married in 1966 and relocated to Mexico City after the birth of their daughter, Susan, in 1968. They stayed in Mexico for twelve years where they enjoyed many friendships, the climate, travels, and delicious Mexican cuisine.
Henry and Karen returned to the Unites States in 1980 and lived in Barrington, IL until 1994. They moved to Bradford, PA where Henry was the Latin America Sales Manager for Zippo Manufacturing Company, until his retirement in 2004.
After considering several locations, Henry and Karen decided that Hudson, OH was the perfect place to retire. Henry kept busy by teaching Spanish to home-schooled teens, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Hudson. His interests included bluebirding, trail maintenance, photography, and outings with the Laurel Lake Bike Club. Henry was noted for his sociability - breakfast meetings with high school classmates, reunions with fraternity brothers, and playing in fiercely competitive games of chair volleyball.
Preceded in death by his parents, William and Lucille Vigor; son, James Vigor, and daughter, Amy Vigor. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Karen Vigor; daughter, Susan (Marty) Baumgartner; grandsons, James (Sarah) Baumgartner and Ryan Baumgartner, as well as his brother, William Vigor.
Rev. Dr. Peter Wiley will conduct Henry's memorial service on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 11 AM, at First Congregational Church of Hudson, 47 Aurora Street, Hudson, OH 44236.
