It is with great sadness, but also great joy, that on the 6th day of December 2024, Herbert “Herb’ Hoover Beene went home to be with his Savior and Lord and to meet all his family and friends who have received Jesus as their personal Savior.
“But as it is written, Eye has not seen, ear has not heard, nor has it entered into the heart of man, the things God has prepared for those who love Him.” I Corinthians 2:9
Herb showed love to everyone he encountered. Herb had a deep love for his family. He preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Virginia “Jennie” Beene; parents, Bertha Beene and Will Beene; son, Larry Beene; brothers, Billy, John, and Herman Beene; sister in laws, Julie, Eva, and Thelma Beene; and brother in law, Leonard “Bugs” Westmoreland.
Herb is survived by the love of his life, Jane Beene; stepdaughters, Diane Tyner and Trish (John) Bland; son, Ron Beene (Bethany); sister, Reva Westmoreland; grandchildren, Jodi Beene, Emily Beene, Jordan Moseley (Keisha), and Dustin Beene; great-grandchildren, Kylee Johnson, Kaylie Beene, Savannah Beene, Kinsley Johnson, and Hadley Moseley; great-great grandson, Houston Redd; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Herb was born in Marion County, TN, but came to Bradley County to begin a career at Bowater Southern Paper Corporation in 1954 and retired in 1989. He also was an integral part of the Bradley County farming community. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Tennessee Vols and the Atlanta Braves.
Herb was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. Herb was saved in 1956 at Bellefounte Baptist Church where he served as their first minister of music. He served as a deacon at Bellefounte Baptist Church and at Tasso Baptist Church. Herb was a current member of First Baptist Church Cleveland, where he was a member of the T Roy Jones Sunday School Class and Dustin Hicks’ Bible study class.
Herb loved music. He was a member of the Roaring Fifties and an active participant in the Gospel Singing at the Senior Center. Herb also enjoyed exercising and socializing at the YMCA. Through these activities Herb made many cherished lifelong friends.
Herb wanted his Home Going Celebration to be a joyous time of singing praises to the Lord he loved so much. Please join us for visitation on Saturday December 14, 2024 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Companion Funeral Home in the Shelli Cody Memorial Sanctuary with the Celebration of Life service to follow at 1:00 pm with Brother Jim Gibson and Brother Ken Purdie officiating. Interment is to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers to assist will be Ross Tarver, George Jullian, Jordan Moseley, Wayne Westmoreland, Pete Westmoreland, and Robin Ashe.
Honorary Pallbearers include Harold Westmoreland, John Moore, Lew Brammer, Tom Roden, David Cawood, Charlie Crisp, Delmer Crisp, Cecil Crisp, Calvin Paul, Jay Thompson, and Jason Spangler.
The family would like to thank Hearth Hospice with special thanks to Courtney, Molly, and Kaylee. The family would also like to thank special friend and caregiver, Schonna Linn.
