Herbert Boland Jr. was born on October 15, 1935, in Hinton, West Virginia to Harbert Boland and Cecil Boland. He grew up alongside his two siblings, Eva Richmond and Robert Angell Jr., in a close-knit family that valued hard work, loyalty and love. In his early years, Herb developed a strong work ethic and a love for hands-on problem-solving skills that would serve him well throughout his life. He later earned his high school equivalency diploma from the State Department of Education in Charleston, West Virginia. Answering the call to serve his country, Herb enlisted in the United States Air Force on February 1, 1954. He dedicated more than twenty years of honorable service to his nation, retiring in June 1974. On August 4, 1956, Herb married Jean Horan. Together they built a home filled with devotion, laughter, and resilience. They were blessed with five children. Herb took great pride in his growing family, later welcoming many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy. On April 2, 2010, he married Hazel Toussaint, expanding his family with a step-daughter, step-son, and a step-granddaughter. Outside of his work and military service, Herb enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved working on cars, spending peaceful days fishing, and sharing the companionship of his beloved dogs. His patience, resourcefulness, and gentle humor made him a steady presence for all who knew him. Herb was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother, sister, son, first and second wives. He leaves behind four children, two step-children, four grandchildren, one step-grandchild, four great-grandchildren a special nephew, other kinfolks, and a host of friends whose lives he touched. Herb’s life was one of service, dedication, and love, a legacy that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
