Herbert Patton Ebinger, age ninety-two (92), passed peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on January 7, 2025, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Preceded in joining the Lord by his wife Joan of thirty-eight (38) years, grandson Ronnie Biggs, and great-grandson Noah Goodwin.
Survived in spirit and love by five (5) daughters, Patricia Nevegold (Walter), Victoria Biggs (Ronald), Viola Goodwin, Karen Ruggles (David), and Joanne Smith; twelve (12) grandchildren, Cherie, Chuck, Ryan (Megan), Natalie, Charlie, Jake, Robbie (Jane), Andrew, Melissa (Joe), Kristen, Bradley, and Kyle; and twenty-nine (29) blossoming great-grandchildren.
Born March 2, 1932 in Hammonton, NJ, to a burgeoning family, Herbert found his place alongside six (6) other siblings and a caring mother and father. Foregoing education to support his family, Herbert joined the workforce at an early age, providing for his family both in Hammonton and after their transition to Camden, NJ as they sought out the hope of new opportunities. Soon after becoming a legal adult, on September 16, 1952, Herbert was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve his country during the Korean War. Upon returning to civilian life on August 24, 1954, he came home to Camden in search of building his own family and career. On June 27, 1964, Herbert married Joan, with whom he raised a family. He and Joan moved their family from Camden to Somerdale, NJ, beginning a new chapter in their life. Always providing and always persevering, Herbert held numerous odd jobs, more than he seemingly had ever been able to keep track of, from bowling pinsetter, golf course greenskeeper, and bricklayer, to shipyard worker and ice deliverer, and many more you may have heard him speak of fondly. He built a twenty-seven (27) year career at The Weyerhaeuser Company and then, in 1995, proudly retired from his working years after having served his community as a security guard for Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden.
Herbert enjoyed conversing, laughing, and "stirring the pot." He is remembered for his abundance of witticisms, legendary card playing skills, and unmatchable appetite. A persevering man, a caring soul, always ready to brighten moods with his smirk and a quick phrase, Herbert Patton Ebinger - son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend - will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Viewing will be Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Immanuel Baptist Church, 6 S Poplar Ave, Maple Shade, NJ 08052, where his service will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment will immediately follow at Bethel Memorial Park, Pennsauken, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Samaritan Hospice, PO Box 71425, Philadelphia, PA 19176-1425.
