Herbert Leon Griggs, 102 of Columbia died Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the Neighborhoods by Tiger Place in Columbia.
Funeral Services will be held 11:30 AM Monday December 2, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbia with burial to follow in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Centralia.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM until the time of the service on Monday at the church.
Herbert was born on December 28, 1921, in Columbia, the son of James Neal Griggs. and Myrtle Ann (Calvert) Griggs.
Herbert married Jean Koenings on August 22, 2015, and she survives of the home.
Along with his wife, Jean, Herbert is survived by a daughter, Louise Griggs of Columbia; stepchildren, John Pharr, Frank Pharr, Eric Pharr, and Jeanine Nila; an adopted daughter, Kim Balog, step-granddaughter, Jamie Nila; brother, Tom G. Forrest and wife Ronna of Lebanon, sister, Margie Myers of Cadiz, KY; several nieces and nephews.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, and four siblings, William "Bill" Griggs, Paul Griggs, James Rolland Griggs, and Mayzell Ward, his first wife, Ilse Griggs.
Herbert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 202.
Herbert worked as the Head Chef for TWA. He flew all around the world, during his time with TWA, even flying with the Pope, and several Presidents.
Herbert had a great sense of humor, enjoyed traveling, really liked buying BMW cars.
Herbert served his country in the United States Coast Guard during World War II.
Memorial donations are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church and may be sent in care Fenton-Kendrick Funeral Home 104 S. Collier St. Centralia, MO 65240.
