Herbert Henry “Herb” Hachmeister, 93, of Natoma, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at the Rooks County Hospital in Plainville, Kansas.
Herb was born June 25, 1932 on the family farm north of Natoma, Kansas. He was one of six children born to Ferdinand W. and Bonita (Richards) Hachmeister. He grew up in Natoma and graduated from Natoma High School in 1952.
Herb was united in marriage to JoAnn Bernritter on April 11, 1963. This union was blessed with three children; Charlotte, Carol and Kathleen. They made their home in Natoma. JoAnn preceded him in death on November 16, 1987. Later in life, Herb was united in marriage to Peggy Cooper on February 14, 1993. They made their home in Natoma. Peggy preceded him in death on December 14, 2011.
Herb was a Farmer and Rancher in the Natoma area all of his life. He was also known for his ability to Sale anything to anybody. He also raised Exotic Animals for many years and loved sharing them with his family and the local community. He was a lifetime member of the Peace Lutheran Church of Natoma. He served on the Church as a Trustee and Elder. He was a member of the Natoma City Council, Township Board, Cemetery Board for the Lutheran Cemetery and was apart of the Hereford Association Board. He enjoyed supporting the U.S. Veterans anytime he could, visiting the local elderly and sick and helping anyone who needed help without hesitation. He was a caring man that loved bringing smiles to his family and friends.
Herb’s surviving family include his daughters, Charlotte Luhman (Brian) of Natoma, Kansas, and Carol Barnes of Ness City, Kansas; brothers, Paul Hachmeister (Judy) of Natoma, Kansas and Marvin Hachmeister of Manhattan, Kansas; sister, Mary Ann Beisner (Roger) of Alton, Kansas; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many close friends.
Herb was preceded in death by parents; both wives; daughter, Kathleen Hachmeister; brothers, George Hachmeister and Donald Hachmeister.
Celebration of Herb’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Peace Lutheran Church of Natoma. Burial will follow at the Natoma Lutheran Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, Saturday at the Church. A Memorial has been established with the Natoma EMS or Natoma Volunteer Fire Department. Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
