Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schlossberg Chapel - Canton on Jan. 27, 2026.
Herbert Jack Hodus, a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, at the age of 95. Herb lived a long and remarkable life, defined by his rare ability to connect with anyone, anywhere, on any topic. He met every person with genuine curiosity, kindness, and respect, and his legacy shines brightly through the family he adored and the countless lives he touched, both personally and professionally.
Herb was known for his warm smile and encouraging words. A natural conversation starter, he always asked how you were doing and truly wanted to know what was new or challenging in your life. His support was thoughtful and distinctive. He listened first, asked questions second, and then offered guidance and honest feedback. He had a gift for helping others see things more clearly, fostering understanding and respect. Often the smartest person in the room, he remained unfailingly humble.
A voracious reader with an endless thirst for knowledge, Herb was a mentor to all who crossed his path. Long before Siri, Google, or Wikipedia, there was Herb.
A devoted husband to Janet for 64 years, Herb built a life rooted in partnership, love, and unwavering support. As a father and grandfather, he created a family known for its closeness, warmth, and deep bonds. He was a steady presence, a rock and foundation for his family and all who knew him.
Herb earned his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at Lowell Technical Institute followed by a Master's and PHD in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University. Herbert was also a Sergeant First Class Headquarters Battery with the 213 th Anti-aircraft Artillery Battalion. Professionally, he was a true supply chain savant. His career in operations began as a project manager at Stop & Shop in New Haven Connecticut and later flourished as Senior Vice President at Child World, the American toy retailer, where he led Distribution, Transportation, and Procurement.
Herb was the beloved husband of Janet; son of the late Anna and William Hodus; devoted father of Mitchell Hodus (Suzette), Robin Hodus, and Matthew Hodus (Gayle); cherished grandfather of Abigail Hodus and Meredith Hodus; and loving brother of the late Barry Hodus.
