Herbert Hoover Meeks, born on January 28, 1950, in Louisiana, passed away peacefully at his home in Morton on January 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A dedicated employee for over 30 years with B.C. Rogers and Koch Foods Feed Mill, Herbert earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues, whom he cherished deeply. He celebrated hard work and camaraderie, and they will be honored as honorary pallbearers at his service.

Herbert was a man of simple joys. He relished the great outdoors, often found fishing, collecting cans, raking his yard, or maintaining the cleanliness of his cherished truck. His enthusiasm for life also extended to his unwavering support for the New Orleans Saints football team and Auburn University, reflecting his spirited personality and love for sports.

Herbert is survived by his loving wife, Freda Meeks of Morton; their five children, Donnie Meeks, Rhonda Meeks, Timothy Meeks, all of Morton, and Carolyn Stingley (Charles) of Forest, and Melody Easterling (Jimmy) of Sebastopol. He is also survived by his siblings, Betty Ann Hodge of Homewood, Lois Cannon of Morton, Linda Sue Hayes of Lemon, Gladys Biggart (Jessie "Popeye") of Thomastown, and Billy Meeks (Melinda) of Morton. Herbert took great pride in being a grandfather, and he is survived by eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy. He also had a special bond with his nephew, Larry Lynn Meeks of Morton.

Herbert was predeceased by his parents, Henry Joe Meeks and Hazel Cecil Boyer Meeks; a beloved granddaughter, Samantha Easterling; and six brothers: Herbert H. Meeks, Ray Meeks, James Meeks, Frank Meeks, Charles Meeks, and John Wayne Meeks. He also mourned the loss of his nephews, Ike Cannon, Roger Lynn Meeks, and Justin Parker, along with his niece, M.J. Harrell.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Lee, Larry Lynn Meeks, Wesley Meeks, Aaron McGraw, Hunter McGraw and Gregg McMillan. Honorary pallbearers will be his coworkers from B.C. Rogers and Koch Foods Feed Mill.

As we remember Herbert Hoover Meeks, we honor a life that exemplified dedication, family, and a love for the little things that brought joy. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

Visitation was held 4pm - 8pm Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton.

Chapel service was held 2pm Sunday, January 18, 2026 in the Ott and Lee Chapel in Morton.

Graveside followed at North Morton Baptist Cemetery.

Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton was honored to serve the Meeks family.
