Herbert B. Hughes, of Epping, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at home on April 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 69 years old.
Born on August 3, 1955, in Portland, Maine, Herb was the beloved son of the late Almira "Peggy" (Rand) Languette and stepson of Arthur Languette. He graduated from Waterville High School in Waterville, Maine, in 1974, and went on to earn an Associate of Science Degree. Herb proudly served in the United States Navy for six years, after which he built a long and successful career in the private sector. His professional journey included contributions to respected companies such as Micrion, FEI, Millipore, and Carl Zeiss.
Herb was a man of many passions. He loved to travel, often embarking on memorable trips with his family. He especially cherished taking motorcycle rides with his wife, Michelle, and spending weekends camping with their close-knit circle of friends at Barrington Shores Campground. Deeply committed to his community, Herb proudly volunteered his time to the Town of Epping. He served on the Epping School Board, was President of the Epping Youth Athletic Association (EYAA), and coached numerous youth sports teams over the years.
In retirement, Herb enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: long walks with his dog and granddogs, quality time with family, and continuing to share his expertise through consulting and part-time work with a local attorney. His gentle nature, sharp wit, and steady presence will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, Herb was predeceased by his brother, Terrance Hughes Sr., and his sister, Pamela Deraps.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Michelle (Caron) Hughes; his son, Logan Hughes, and wife Meghan; his daughter, Colby Senter, and husband Steve; and his two beloved grandsons, Rowan and Oliver. He also leaves behind his brother, Roland Hughes II, and wife Verna, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will always carry his memory in their hearts.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Beacon Hospice, especially the compassionate nurses and LNAs, for their exceptional care and support during Herb's final days.
A celebration of life will be held on May 18th for all who wish to attend. The celebration will be held at the Camelot venue at The Holy Grail in Epping, NH from 2-5pm. A private service will be held for the family at a different date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be mailed to the ECCI Community Church Food Pantry at P.O.Box 313 Epping NH 03042 or the Glioblastoma Foundation at glioblastomafoundation.org
