Breaux Bridge, Louisiana- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, November 17, 2023, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge for Herbert Joseph, 76, who passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center. 

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Friday from 7:00 AM to 10:15 AM.

A rosary will be prayed at 9:00 AM on Friday. 

Rev. George Bede Ajuruchi, SSJ will officiate at the Funeral Mass. 

Interment will follow at Evangeline Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Carencro.

Herbert Joseph, also known as "Hobo" by his friends and trucker buddies, was born February 1, 1947 in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was born to the union of the late Adam and Mercede Joseph. He was the eldest of 9 children.

Herbert began his truck-driving career at the age of 14, driving in the cane fields with his late father. As soon as he was old enough to hit the highway, he kept the wheels rolling on a semi-truck. After 50 years of truck driving, Herbert retired but returned to his passion, working part-time for another 3 years before entering permanent retirement.

He began to enjoy his full-time retirement and spent many days joyriding with his youngest brother, cooking outside for his children and grandchildren, and hanging out with his fellow retired buddies. The remainder of his free time was spent watching his favorite western shows and Perry Mason. He lived a very simple life that even his wardrobe reflected. He could always be seen wearing a white tee shirt, his signature dark wash wrangler jeans, and pointed-toe cowboy boots.

A divine appointment with God was decreed on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the age of 76. The Lord dispatched His special angels to escort the spirit of His dear son Herbert Joseph to his heavenly destination. By the omnipotent power of our Almighty Father, our beloved Herbert was transitioned to his forever home.

He leaves to cherish these memories: Children, Theresa Joseph, Michelle Boutan, Christopher Joseph, Bradley Joseph, and Cora Spain (Lamont); Domestic Partner, Cora Bruno; Grandchildren, Tori Mitchell (Leonard), Zaria Boutan, Zabian Boutan, Ryleigh Joseph, Layla Spears, Harley Joseph, Baylee Joseph, Connor Spain, Cooper Spain, Colston Spain, Elijah Spain, Emyrie Spain, and Zina Spain; Great grandchild, Easton Mitchell; Sisters, Elizabeth Johnson (Robert) and Rita Joseph; Brothers, Wilbert Joseph (Joyce), and Junius Joseph (Barbara);  Godchildren; Tiffany Milstead, Katrell Poole, Cedric Noel, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends including long-time friend Morris "Plucker" Trosclair.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Mercede Joseph; wife, Veronica Joseph; sisters, Mary Johnson, Rose Joseph, and Margaret Davis; brother Harry Lee Joseph; nephew, Michael Johnson; paternal and maternal grandparents, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law.

Pallbearers will be Lawrence Joseph Johnson, Jr., Don Poole, Jr., Kurt Kador, Joseph Johnson, Jamie Lee Tolliver and Shadrick Alexander.

Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Joseph, Bradley Joseph, Wilbert Joseph, Junis Joseph, Lamont Spain, Zabian Boutan, Donnie Celestine, Lawerence Johnson, Morris Trosclair, Jerry Jones, Royal Noel and Robert Johnson, Sr.
