Herbert 'Payton' Marquess, also called 'Pud' age 80, of Bumpus Mills, TN went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 5, 2026. He was born in Cadiz, KY on January 13, 1946 the youngest son of Odell and Martha Marquess.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his dear wife of 54 years, Dianne Marquess; brothers, Wesley and Clayton Marquess.
Payton was a faithful member of Bumpus Mills Missionary Baptist Church since the age of 13, when he accepted Jesus as his Savior. He loved the Lord and his family with all his heart. He was a retired auto body repairman 'body man'. He enjoyed restoring old cars, 'especially 64 Impala'. He also enjoyed collecting guns and watching a good boxing match on TV.
Payton is survived by his son, John Marquess of Whitehouse, TN and daughter, Jenny (Brian) Hyde of Bumpus Mills, TN; precious granddaughter, Claire Marquess and great grandchildren, Graham and Knox.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Bumpus Mills Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. William Gray officiating.
Pallbearers will be his nephew, Rex Marquess, great nephews, Zach Marquess and Tyler Marquess, Barry Wilson, Marshall Nichols, Junior Miller and Scott Shuel. Honorary pallbearers are Carson Wallace, Phillip Wallace, Bobby Gillum, John Sinca and Jim Albrecht.
The family wishes to extend a special 'Thank You' to Walking Horse Memory Care for the love and care you have shown the last 13 months. A special 'Thank You' to James Walker and Paula King from Aveanna Hospice.
