Herbert Schneider Obituary

HERBERT M. SCHNEIDER
Herbert M. Schnieder, 93, of Cheshire, formerly of North Haven, passed away on Sunday, December 14th, 2025. He was the husband of Ann J. Schneider for 67 years, father of Carol (James) Castro of Feeding Hills, Massachusetts, and Neal G. Schneider, and grandfather of Victoria, Vincent, and Nicholas Castro. He was predeceased by two sisters, Edna and Hilda, who died at a young age of childhood complications. His parents Max and Elsie came to the United States during the 1920s from Leipzig, Germany. Mr. Schneider was born on March 25th, 1932, in New Haven, Connecticut. He was a Wilbur L. Cross High School graduate and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in accounting from Quinnipiac University. He was a C.P.A. in the State of Connecticut and served with the U.S. Army in Korea. His professional career started with Ernst & Young CPA, The Scovill Co. in Waterbury, Connecticut, and the Marlin Companies in North Haven, Connecticut, where he retired from in 1999. His professional associations, the Connecticut Society of CPA's and The Financial Executives Institute. During his life, outdoor activities and organizations were important to him. For many years he was a member and treasurer of the North Haven Ski Cub. Fondness for skiing led him on many trips to Colorado, Utah, California, Wyoming, France and Austria. Also, with his young son he was active as an Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 805 in North Haven, which went on many backpacking trips including the entire Long Trail in Vermont. He was also active in the Southern Connecticut Cycle Club, leading many rides. In later years, golf became an important part of his life, and he was a member of the Indian Springs Golf Club. Canoeing was also enjoyed by Herbert and his wife, Ann, as well as sailing his Sunfish along Long Island Sound.
Private funeral services have been entrusted to The Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue, North Haven.
