Herbert Starr, 92, of Quaker City, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Altercare of Cambridge.
Herbert was born on July 26, 1932, in Old Washington, a son to the late Marvin and Beulah (McVicker) Starr.
Herbert was a graduate of Old Washington High School. He worked on the Landmark, Strip Mine and later retired from the county as a Night Watchman. He enjoyed playing softball, earning the nickname "Big Chew", going to families sporting events, golf, word searches, and mowing. Herbert was known for his garden, and he always shared the produce he harvested. He was a member of Middlebourne United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Lee (Miller) Starr, whom he married on May 28, 1952, and passed away on October 9, 2008, his son, Tony Starr, his siblings, Whitie Starr and Judy Ellison, his brother, Roger Starr, his sister-in-law, Vicky Starr, his brother-in-law, Dave Ellison, and his step-mother, Thelma Starr.
Herbert is survived by his son, Kerry (Christine) Starr of Cambridge, his daughters, Robin (Tim) Carpenter of Quaker City, and Lisha Starr of Cambridge, his brother, Richard Starr of Quaker City, and his sister-in-law, Linda Starr of Quaker City. Also left to cherish his memory are his grandchildren, Brian (Jodi), Dustin, Sarah, Amanda (Amanda), Todd (Heather), Morgan, Hallie (Jimmy), Gage (Amanda), Brandon, Tyler (Maddy), Danielle, Alexya, and Jr., his step- grandchild, Lynsey (Branden), his great-grandchildren, Jake, Jett, Brynlee, Dawson, Brysen, Karson, Millie, and Stella, his step-great-grandchildren, Landen and Beckham, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to give a special thank you to Edith Carter for always calling and checking up on Herbert.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 4PM to 7PM and Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 11AM to 12PM at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Quaker City with the funeral held at 12PM with Pastor Devanie Roe officiating. Burial will follow at Friends Cemetery.
