Herbert Steely, a cherished member of the community and a respected veteran, passed away at 12:03 am on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, in Raclin House. Born on September 4, 1952, in Elkhart, IN, Herbert's life was a testament to his strength, craftsmanship, and dedication to his family and country.

Herbert, known for his skilled hands and warm heart, was a talented cabinet maker at Palidan Caseworks. His work was not just a job but a form of art that provided him with immense satisfaction and pride. His creations were a reflection of his attention to detail and his commitment to excellence. Herbert's legacy as a craftsman will live on in the many homes graced by his work.

Serving in the United States Army, Herbert demonstrated his love for his country with honor and courage. His service was recognized by his fellow veterans, and he was a proud member of the American Legion Post 161. His patriotism and the camaraderie he found in the service were sources of great pride.

Herbert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary E. (Wraight) Steely, his parents, Earl and Mildred (Rhoades) Steely, and his sisters, Pam (Tom) Vories and Melody (Tracy) Farkas. He leaves behind a loving family, including his sister, Pat Sparks; stepchildren, Susan (Jimmy) Stacy, Keith Stores, and Mark (Teri) Martsolf; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside Services for Herbert will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, where friends and family will gather to honor his memory. Palmer Funeral Home - River Park Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements, ensuring Herbert's final farewell is as dignified and respectful as the life he led.

Herbert Steely's life was one of purpose, service, and love. As we say goodbye, we celebrate the enduring impact he has made on all of us. His spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, and his memory will forever be etched in our hearts.
