Herbert Brooke "Herb" Taylor

Herbert "Herb" Brooke Taylor, 95, of Frederick County, VA whose faith in the Lord guided every step of his long and meaningful life, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025 at his home.
Herb was born on February 8, 1930 in Grimes, VA, a son of the late Homer B. Taylor and Stella Gordon Taylor. He lived his entire life just a few houses away from where he was born, beside his brother, sister, and their families. He graduated from Stonewall High School in the class of 1947. Herb served in the United States Army as a military policeman in post-war Korea from 1954-56.
Herb's love of woodworking became his career, as a devoted teacher of carpentry and cabinet making at Dowell J. Howard Center for 24 years. He volunteered with CCAP Winchester and was a past member of the Frederick County Weekday Religious Education Association. As an active member of the Shenandoah Valley Chapter 313 Korean War Veterans Association, Herb proudly chaired the construction committee to build the memorial located in Jim Barnett Park, where his actual combat boots served as the mold for the bronzed ones on display. In his spare time, Herb enjoyed going fishing, taking a trip to the beach, and spending as much time as he could with his friends and family.
Herb was a very active member at White Hall Church in Frederick County, serving many years as a lay leader, board member, Sunday School teacher and doing numerous construction projects for the church. The day before his passing, he enjoyed the beloved tradition of hand cranking ice cream along with his friends and family in preparation for the upcoming church yard party.
Along with his loving wife of 64 years, Judy M. Moulden, Herb is survived by their daughter, Brenda Taylor Martin (Eric) of Fredericksburg, VA; and grandson, Taylor Via of Virginia Beach, VA.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, James Taylor and Jean Sowers.
Herb's family will receive friends Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester from 10:00am to 11:00am. A funeral service will follow at 11:00am with ministers Mike Moulden and Tim Hardison officiating. Burial will take place at White Hall Church Cemetery.
