Herbert Wichner ObituaryHerbert Wichner was born on July 9th, 1939. He was born to Helena and Heinrich Wichner in Cecylowka, Germany. He and his family later emigrated to Ludel, Kansas in 1952. They later moved to Belvidere, Illinois. Herbert went on to attend and graduate from DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago, Illinois.
Herbert served in the United States Army and was discharged in 1968. That same summer he met his wife Elly Gelszinnis after being set up on a blind date via Herbert's sister.
On June 13th, 1970 they married, and soon settled into their home in Chicago, later welcoming three sons.
Herbert accomplished many amazing things including becoming a founding member of Brandenburger Schützen Verein in 1991. He was an important fixture at the club, helping shooters every Wednesday since the club's beginnings. His peers said he was the embodiment of the Brandenburg Schutzenverein.
Later in his life Herbert was blessed with five grandchildren that truly were his greatest joy.
On June 7th, 2024, Herbert, surrounded by his wife and sons, peacefully said goodbye to this life to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
Herbert was preceded in death by his mother Helena, father Heinrich, and Brother Helmut Wichner.
To cherish Herbert's memory, he left behind his wife Elly Wichner, his sons Ron E. Wichner (Patty), Herbert M. Wichner, and Karl D. Wichner (Malika). Grandchildren Elly, Mitchell, Addy, Rebecca, and Mason. His brother Erwin Wichner of Oregon, and his sisters Lilli Vogt of Germany and Herta Luttmann of Washington. As well as a host of nieces and nephews, other extended family and loving friends he made over the years.

Visitation will be held Monday June 17th from 9:00 AM until time of Funeral Service 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church 4939 W. Montrose Ave. Parking is available across the street from the Church. Interment St. Luke Cemetery. Information available at 773-685-4400 or tohlefuneralhome.com
