Herman Robert Williamson
August 13, 1939-May 23, 2025
Herman Robert Williamson, 85, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, passed away Friday, May 23, 2025 at Northwest Health La Porte, with his loved ones by his side.
He was born August 13, 1939 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of George Williamson and Lillian (Gross) Williamson.
A lifelong resident of the area, Herman graduated with the class of 1957 from Rolling Prairie High School in Rolling Prairie, IN and attended college in Phoenix, AZ. He proudly served in the United States Army during the same time period as fellow enlistee, Elvis Presley. Upon his return, Herman went to work as a mold maker for both Howmet and Aero Metals in La Porte, IN, from where he retired in August, 2018. On July 8, 1978 in South Bend, IN, he married the love of his life, Roseann Wood, and together they raised a wonderful family. Herman coached his children’s softball and baseball teams in Rolling Prairie, IN for many years, making personally engraved plaques each year for every child on his team. With such a strong, mechanically inclined mind, Herman would often be found repairing his loved ones' vehicles in his yard, otherwise known as "Dad's Garage". He was an avid bicyclist but also enjoyed canoe fishing when time allowed. Becoming a master winemaker over the years, Herman loved to share in a “Prost” with the people he loved. Family, especially his children and grandchildren were the joy of his life, and because of his great love for all children, he earned the nickname "Baby Hog", swooping in and comforting any baby he could. Herman was an extraordinary, nurturing, kind, and giving husband, dad and friend, who always strived to make a difference in the lives of whomever crossed his path. He will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched.
Along with Roseann, his wife of 46 years, Herman is survived by his children, Tracy Peters of Michigan City, IN, Gloria (Geoff Norris) Williamson of Rolling Prairie, IN, Tammy Glassman of New Carlisle, IN, Derik (Jamie) Williamson of New Carlisle, IN, Katie (Greg King) Williamson of New Carlisle, IN, Matt (Becky) Williamson of La Porte, IN; brother, Richard (Jeannine) Williamson of Plano, TX; sister, Pat Knox of Ft. Wayne, IN; fourteen grandchildren, Brianna, Marisa (Will), Christian (Steph), Emily, Justin, Maya, Brennen, Skyler, Bella, Kiera, Ben, Henry, Maggie, Teddy; three great-grandchildren, Damien, Victor, Kamari, along with a large extended family.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents and his brother George Williamson.
