Hermine Walker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Waller Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Feb. 9, 2026.
On May 8, 1952, a sunny late spring day, Hermine, A.K.A. "Herm", "Hermie", "Dinky", or the "Herminator", popped out wide-eyed and ready to take on the world, and take on the world she did, making lifelong friends all along the way. An army of those friends banded together to help her exit her journey, on Sunday, February 8, 2026, after battling cancer and preparing for her transition. One of those friends described that process as "love in motion", and it was a profoundly powerful thing to see and be a part of.

Hermine grew up in Senatobia, MS, graduated from Senatobia High School and from MSCW/MWN. She played sports all of her life and was a fierce competitor. She worked for the Welfare Department in Senatobia for many years, followed by a long stint as a counselor for Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind in Oxford, MS. She finished her career in her favorite job ever, as the head coach of girls fast-pitch softball in Senatobia, a program she started so her beloved nieces would have the opportunity to play fast-pitch and potentially get scholarships to play in college. She was also the Junior High girl's basketball coach and has remained close to many of her players. As a tribute to Hermine, the Senatobia Softball Program honored her with Coach Hermine Walker Day at their annual alumni day in 2025 and established an annual award in her honor.

On a personal level, Hermine lived life wide open and on her terms. She never met a stranger and was always the life of the party, of which she threw and/or participated in many. If she loved you, she loved you with her whole heart; if she didn't, you knew it. She was "Little Hermine" to her family, while her grandmother, Big Hermine, was the quintessential steel magnolia. She was an original in every way, and there will never be another.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, Donald and Jane Patterson Walker.

She loved and leaves her sister, Jan Walker; brother, Cam Walker (Marilyn); nieces, Leslie Maranto (Derrick), Lori Johnson (Aaron), and Janey Walker; and her nephew, Taylor Walker (Candi). She also leaves her great nephews, Walker Maranto, Braden Maranto, Cam Thomas Maranto, Cameron Johson, Jack T. Johnson, and Tate Walker; along with her great niece, Ryleigh Jane Walker; and too many friends to mention… you know who you are.

A memorial service honoring and celebrating Hermine's life will be held at the Senatobia Church of Christ on Thursday, February 26, 2026. Visitation will be in the morning with the service in the afternoon. Exact times to be determined.

Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice in honor of the Herminator.
