Officer Ryker Hicks

It is with great sadness we report the sudden and unexpected passing of K9 Officer Ryker Hicks, of the Cambria Police Department. K9 Ryker passed away Sunday, February 15, 2026 at his home. We extend our deepest condolences to K9 Ryker's handler, Officer Travis Hicks, family, and all those who had the honor of working alongside him. The bond between a handler and their K9 partner is unlike any other, and this loss is felt deeply by his family and across the department and the community.

K9 Ryker, a Dutch Shepherd, served with the Cambria Police Department alongside his handler and partner, Officer Travis Hicks. Throughout his career, K9 Ryker demonstrated unwavering dedication, courage, and commitment to keeping his community safe. He was responsible for numerous narcotics seizures and successful tracks for suspects who had fled. K9 Ryker was more than a police dog - he was a friend, partner, and protector to Officer Hicks and the community he served. He loved playing with his kong, tug-of-war, and enjoying pup cups from Culvers while on duty. Above all, he loved working and serving alongside his handler and partner. Travis always felt safe knowing that Ryker had his back no matter what.

The community is invited to pay respects to K9 Ryker on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, in a funeral procession to honor his service. The procession will begin at 1:00 PM at the Cambria Police Department and end at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, where cremation rites will take place.

Memorial services are being planned to remember K9 Ryker's life and honor him as the public servant and hero that he was. Service details will be shared as they become available.

K9 Ryker's legacy of service will never be forgotten. Rest easy, faithful partner. Your watch is complete. He will be deeply missed by Officer Hicks, his family, and the community he served.
