Hilda Peek Cochran peacefully passed away on February 15, 2026 in her home in
Peachtree City, Georgia. She was born in 1932 to Bessie Eidson and Charlie Peek of Goodes, Georgia. She was one of their ten children. She later married William Owen Cochran Sr. of Palmetto, Georgia. Hilda and William had five children – William Jr, Kathleen, Mary Sue, Bess, and Maggie. She and William were married for thirty years before his sudden loss. Her family expanded to seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.
In over nine decades, Hilda, known by many as Sister, held two priorities above all others. The first was a total commitment to her faith. All who witnessed Hilda's life saw her faith in action on a daily basis. There was never a day without Bible study and prayer. When the church doors were open, she was there. When she said "I will be praying for you" to someone in need, she was the one who did exactly that. When there were souls in the church and community who were hurting, she quietly and frequently came to their sides with food from her special kitchen and kindness. When life delivered its headwinds like the sudden and early loss of her husband, her faith grew even deeper. She was a rock, a beacon, and the very definition of a humble giant. For most of her years, she had a passion for sending thousands of special cards to hundreds of people at key moments. Her special handwritten messages always touched the soul. Her writing was a ministry.
The second priority was family, and she had a big one. With many brothers and sisters and children, she was constantly focused on family events that tightened the bonds of all. She loved her entire family and gave every ounce of herself to them. At the largest of family events, you would see Hilda spending one-on-one time with the oldest members to the youngest. All treasured that time with her.
She was a talented and praised cook. She was at peace in the kitchen even though a war was often occurring within it as she feverishly cooked so many special meals for people in need and for family. Her meals possessed an enormity of flavors that drew high praise. Her cakes were divine. Her record was cooking over twenty in a single day of various flavors. Her chocolate covered tea cakes were treasures.
Ultimately, Hilda was the definition of a wonderful daughter, a loving sister, a devoted wife, a caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. Those who knew her will always cherish the kindness in her eyes, her pure humility, her genuineness, her love, her listening ears and eyes, her great passion, her sense of humor that brought many smiles, her love of being there when the headwinds blew hard, and so much more.
There is no doubt that the words "Well done my good and faithful servant" greeted her as she departed. Her life will create positive ripples for generations.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Owen Cochran, Sr. and is survived by her children, Kathleen Warren of Hogansville, Mary Sue McGee (Ted) of Pine Mountain, Bess Cochran of Pine Mountain, Maggie Blackstock (Bill) of Cartersville, William O.
