Graveside service for Hilda Nelson, 96, of Dallas will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Woodlawn Cemetery with Pastor Michael Schalora officiating.
Hilda H. Nelson Stinchcomb, a longtime resident of Dallas, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at the age of 96. She was born in Timpson, Texas on April 10, 1928 to Latisha Hardage Haden and Roy Haden. Later she was adopted by Maude and Frank Haden and grew up as the only child. She graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas and attended Southern Methodist University where she met her husband, H. Marshall Nelson and married in 1946. They had two daughters, Cassie N. Jackowski and Marsha "Susie" N. Bailey. As her husband worked in the family CPA firm of Nelson & Nelson, Hilda secured a Texas Real Estate license and commenced a long, successful career with Ebby Halliday Realtor. At the same time, she developed an interior decorating company, Frances & Clyde Co., with her long-time sorority friend Billy Libby. She was an active member of the SMU Tri Delta Sorority, life-time member of the Dallas Women's Club, Mariana Scruggs Garden Club, Knife & Fork Club, Millie & Ken Cooper's Aerobic Center and various book clubs. In 1993 she married Glenn M. Stinchcomb and embarked on a new journey. Together they enjoyed many travels around the world, good times at their ranch and going to the Opera and the Dallas Symphony. Family, neighbors and strangers were always blessed by her caring thoughtfulness and helping others.
She is preceded in death by H. Marshall Nelson, Glenn Stinchcomb and daughter, Cassie N. Jackowski.
She is survived by her daughter, M. Susie Bailey; son-in-law, Dr. James Jackowski; grandsons, Vince Jackowski and Steven Jackowski; great-grandson, Lucus Jackowski; and step-children, Zoe Ann Stinchcomb and husband, Lary, Robert Stinchcomb and wife, Vickie, Paul Stinchcomb and wife, Christi, and Sam Stinchcomb and wife, Doris.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Sandra and Gus Turner for their faithful and loving care until her final day. Also, special thanks to the staff of Magnolia Assisted Living.
