Hilda Tornillo
Hilda also known as "Dee" was born on June 6, 1932, in Tampa, Florida and peacefully passed on November 15, 2022. Her parents Gregorio and Palmira Martinez raised nine children, five brothers and four sisters and Dee was the second youngest. Dee met her late beloved husband, John B. Tornillo Sr., while he served in the Air Force at MacDill AFB and they were married for 59 years. They resided in Washington, DC. area until 2005 when they retired and moved to Spanish Main Yacht Club in Longboat Key, Florida.
Dee is survived by her four children and five grandchildren: son John B. Tornillo, Jr. (Deborah) granddaughter Angela Burleson; daughter Patricia (Trish) Tornillo; son Vincent J Tornillo granddaughters Siena Tornillo and Toscana Tornillo; and son Mark G. Tornillo grandchildren Marco Tornillo and Sextus Tornillo.
Dee was an amazing person who had a natural sense of style, grace, humor and was always dancing and entertaining. When she was not traveling the world, she dedicated her life and volunteered her time and devotion to helping and teaching others everything from seamstress skills, party organizing to just simple life experiences. Dee was devoted to her family, Catholic Church and community. She was deeply involved with her parish, St. Mary's Star of the Sea, as Chair of Ladies Guild membership committee, Eucharistic Minister, Annual Church Bazaar and Annual Rummage Sale. She was involved with her community in various roles including Social Director for Spanish Main Yacht Club.
Funeral arrangements have been made as follows: Visitation Friday, November 18, 2022, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, 40 North Orange Avenue, Sarasota, Florida 34236.
Funeral Service, Saturday, November 19, 2022, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Saint Mary's Star of the Sea, 4280 Gulf of Mexico Drive, Longboat Key, Florida 34228. Reception to follow.
Interment Service. Wednesday November 23, 2022, 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Gate of Heaven, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20906. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
