Hilda Veleber of Roscoe, NY, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025 at Christian Healthcare in Wykoff, NJ at the age of 92. Hilda had battled the effects of dementia for several years.
Born in Jersey City, NJ on September 5, 1933, to her parents, Hanz and Hildigard Emker, Hilda was raised in Fairlawn, NJ. She graduated Fairlawn High in 1951, attended college in NYC and after marriage moved to Ridgewood, NJ in the early 1960's. After retiring in 1995, she moved to Weeki Wachi, FL and then returned to the northeast in 2004, settling in Roscoe, NY in a newly built, mountain-top log home.
Hilda married John Veleber from Garfield, NJ in 1956 and had four children while living in Ridgewood, NJ; Susan, Kathy, Debra and John. She was very active in Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was a chorus member for over 25 years. She worked for Godart Dental in Ridgewood, NJ for almost 20 years as an office manager, retiring in 1995.
Hilda loved traveling with her husband, John. A few of their favorite destinations included; LBI, Germany, Cancun, Bethany Beach, Montana, Alaska and Florida. During her retirement, she enjoyed time on the golf course, big game fishing in Key West and horseback riding in Alaska. Hilda had a passion for travel, adventure and good times with family and friends.
Hilda is survived by her children, Susan Baumgartner (Bob), Kathy, and John (Juliette); 4 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband John, brother, Butch and daughter, Debra.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 15, 2025 from 4-7 at Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23, Sussex, NJ. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 16, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Pinkel Funeral Home with burial to immediately follow at George Washington Cemetery in Paramus.
