Hilton Farlough
1939 - 2025
Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you. For you, Lord, have delivered me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before the Lord in the land of the living. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants. Psalm 116:7-9, 15
With gratitude for a life well-lived, we celebrate Hilton Farlough-affectionately known as Ton and fondly referred to as Okie Dokie.
The Lord God said to His good and faithful servant, I am with you always, well done. Hilton passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, at 9:57pm beside his beloved wife, Faith, at the age of 85. She remained at his side as his primary caregiver until the very end.
A native of Mount Airy, LA, Hilton was born on September 21,1939, to the late Earl Farlough and Sylvia Franklin Farlough. After graduating from Fifth Ward High School in 1960, he attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA and enlisted in the Army shortly thereafter. He received medals as a marksman with good conduct. Most notably, during his time in the Army, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ for himself and was baptized in Florida.
Following his tenure in the army, he returned to Reserve, LA where he started his career at DuPont. For over 30 years, Hilton was known for his hard work, determination, and creative spirit – something both his co-workers and family truly admired.
In 1977 at DuPont, Hilton met his wife, Faith Ursin. Their 45-year union was filled with love and compassion creating a beautiful blended family including 7 children and a host of grandchildren. Hilton and Faith shared a deep and abiding love.
After his retirement in 1999, he spent his time doing what he loved most, enjoying family and working as a carpenter. He worked on projects with his nephews and assisted with restoring homes in St John Parish after Hurricane Katrina. His training came from years of working with his daddy and brothers. They built schools, churches, and homes throughout the River Parishes.
Hilton enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling across the states with family, Saints football, watching Tiger Woods play golf, old westerns and the sounds of R&B, gospel, and blues music.
His story of triumph is extraordinary! After paralysis in 2015, Hilton fought and with God's grace was able to regain mobility. The journey in the years that followed was nothing short of a miracle in many ways. During this time (from November 2014 until July 2025), his wife Faith, remained steadfast, loyal, and dutiful in taking care of him in sickness and in health. She was committed to every detail of his care.
Hilton was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Sylvia Farlough, his siblings, Barbara Farlough Edwards, Myrtle Farlough Victor, Earline Farlough Bowser, Phyllis Williams, Earl Farlough Jr., Milton Farlough, Hersey Farlough and his grandson, Jamar Cook. Along with a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by his wife, Faith Farlough; his children, Sylvia Farlough Cook, Jeffrey Wright Sr., Terry Simmons Jr., Tonya Farlough Scott (Christopher), Brandon Simmons (Karlonda), Tina White, and Felicia Farlough Cox (Kevin); grandchildren Alexis Augustus, Anthony Cook, Asia Farlough, Brandon Simmons Jr., Brittany Wright, Christian Cox, Jeffrey Wright Jr., John Scott, Jordan Coates, Kevin Cox Jr., Skylar Reed McMillon, Terry Simmons III, Trinity Simmons, Tykwan White, Tajuan White, Tonya Porter, Tyren Porter, Torian Porter, Terraz White, Tony Porter Jr, Taitin Porter, Tiajah White, Terrance White; sister, Gritta F. Green
He also leaves to cherish his memories, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, officers and members of St. John Baptist Church and all neighboring Churches are invited to the Celebration of Life Services at 10:00am on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at St. John Baptist Church, 287 Daffodil Street, Mt Airy, LA 70076. Rev. Ferdinand Wallace, Pastor-Officiating. Visitation from 8:00am to 10:00am at the above-named Church. Interment St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, 1550 LA-44, Reserve, LA 70084. Final Arrangements Entrusted to Patrick H. Sanders Funeral Home & Staff. 605 Main Street, Laplace, LA 70068. 985-359-1919. "Providing Care & Comfort is Our Highest Mission."
