Holger Lundin Obituary

Published by Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home on Sep. 2, 2017.
Reverend Dr. Holger O. Lundin, of Wethersfield, died Saturday, September 02, 2017 at Hartford Hospital. He was the loving husband of Judith Hallden Lundin, father of Karen Lundin and Jennifer Robinson, grandfather to 10 grandchildren, and son of the late Oscar and Astrid Lundin of Hartford. He also leaves behind a sister, Lillian West of Leland, North Carolina, 4 nieces and 4 nephews, and many cousins in Sweden. Holger attended West Hartford schools and graduated from William Hall High School, Class of 1955. He graduated UConn in 1967; went onto Rutgers University, New Jersey, and received a Master's Degree; went on to the Lutheran Seminary in Philadelphia and continued his education for a Doctorate of Ministry at the San Francisco Seminary in California. Pastor Lundin served as a pastor at three churches in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Connecticut. Even after his retirement, Holger continued to fill in for vacant churches in Connecticut. Holger will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was generous and loved by his church family, family, neighbors, and community. Holger had a great love for sharing God's Word and helping people in need. He invested his life into the congregations he served through preaching and teaching adults, youths, and children. He regularly visited people during hospital stays and other times of need. For hobbies, Holger loved to do woodworking with friends, racquetball, swimming, golfing, and walking. He served as Secretary of the Swedish Relief Society and was always proud of his Swedish heritage. He was also active in the Wethersfield Computer Learning Center. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 371 Wolcott Road, Wethersfield, CT. The family will receive friends after the service. Memorial donations may be made to either St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Palliative Care at Hartford Hospital. Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, West Hartford has care of arrangements. Judy, I always look forward to receiving Christmas greetings from you and Pastor. I was so sad to hear of his passing that it brought a tear to my eye. I always loved hearing him preach with his calm and caring ways. He baptized both of our children and that was so special to Rob and me.Rob enjoyed playing racquetball with him and Harold. Rob recounted one time when the 3 were playing and Rob accidentally hit the ball in the back of Pastor's knee with some significant force. Rob felt terrible and Pastor jumped. It left a mark. You probably heard all about that evening. I remember him so very fondly with church school, church picnics, and so many wonderful times. Thank you for including the obituary. We still have the cross with the crown of thorns, spear, bread and the white cloth that was given to the children at church school. Besides all of these things, Pastor was loved by many and the thought of him sitting and being able to talk with Jesus brings a smile to my face. Our sincerest sympathies to you, Jenny, Karen and their families. All our Love, Jill & Rob Patterson

Lundin family,
I am so very sorry to read of Pastor Lundin's passing. He was pastor at St. Paul's in Terryville. He married me, helped me through my divorce, helped bury my Daddy, visited and comforted my Mama, and helped bury my Mama. He was a good man and loved to walk with him on his evening strolls. He is surely walking with our Lord and savior up on the heavens.
Sincerely,
Joanne Skoczylasaevuc
