On Monday, February 10, 2025, Hollan "Rocket" Ray Humphrey, remarkably devoted husband, loving father of three children, "Papa" to four grandchildren, and cherished friend to many found everlasting rest in God's Kingdom at the age of 78.
Hollan was born on October 26, 1946 in Athens, TX to Alvin Thomas Humphrey and Pansy Mae Alexander Humphrey. On December 6, 1968 he married Barbra Patricia Gideon Humphrey of Brownsboro, TX. They spent 52 years of marriage together and raised two daughters, Melani Humphrey of
Chandler, TX, Felicia Edwards of Georgetown, TX, and one son, Adam Humphrey of Huntsville, TX. Hollan graduated from Van High School in the class of 1967. He was a reliable, hard working employee for Carrier Air Conditioning for 35 years until his retirement. He was an active member of the West Lake Baptist Church in
Chandler, TX, as well as the Bear Creek Saintz– a support group for widows and widowers of the church. Hollan also volunteered his time with the church security team, as well as the East Texas Food Bank.
Hollan was treasured and respected by many. He was very amicable and rarely met a stranger. If any family or friends ever needed his help, he would be there at the drop of a hat. He had an extremely thoughtful, kind, loyal spirit toward others. Hollan had a wonderful sense of humor and could always get a laugh out of everyone he met. Everyone that knew Hollan knows that he was obsessed with classic cars– especially his cherished 1970 Chevelle Super Sport and 1982 El Camino. He loved drag racing on Farm to Market Road 279 with his buddies and attending car shows across Texas. He was a devout, life-long fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns and loved to host watch parties at his home with family and friends. Hollan loved to travel with Barbra and explore different National Parks across the country. Hollan loved listening to music, especially classic country. He even played the drums in a band called The Country Gentlemen with some of his friends when he was in his late teens. Amidst all of his different hobbies and interests, there is nothing Hollan loved more than spending quality time with his kids and grandchildren. He is remembered by his infectious smile and laughter, vivacious spirit, compassion toward others, and his unwavering trust and confidence in his Lord and Savior.
