Homer Sorrell Thompson, Sr., 80, of Macedonia community, Canton, GA, passed away peacefully August 6, 2025, at his home, surrounded by loved ones.
Homer's greatest passion was his family. Homer was known well in the community for his ambition, kindness and helpfulness.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents Effie and Dennis Thompson, siblings, Leroy Ryder, David Thompson, Edward Thompson, Doris Mask, Rosanel Beck, Edna Jones, Dixie Snow, William Henry Thompson, Fred Thompson, Lucille Allred, Harold Thompson, and his children,Elizabeth Thompson and Melissa Thompson Thomas Crane
He is survived by his greatest love, his wife of 54 years, Stephanie Chandler Thompson: his sister, Hazel (Henry, deceased) Casey, His children; June (Stanley, deceased) Underwood, Pamela (Mike) Shepard, Homer Thompson, Jr Trinity (Christopher) Ashworth as well as 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many beloved nieces, nephews and relatives. Homer was a Mason. He found great fellowship and purpose in his Masonic brotherhood. Homer spent most of his career as a manger in multiple fields, including he and his wife Stephanie bringing Kentucky Fried Chicken to Canton in July of 1971.Homer was a small business owner with a convenience store in the area, Homer's Stop and Wash.He and Stephanie built a huge following and solid reputation as a man who would help you with anything. Upon selling the store, he threw away his box of IOU's saying "we have enough". Homer was one of the founding members of Circle 5 Volunteer Fire Department in Macedonia. Service and safety in the community was one of his greatest passions. The family will receive friends at a Celebration of Life for Homer on August 16, 2025, 2-4 pm at Macedonia Memorial Park,10655 East Cherokee Drive, Canton, GA 30115. Inurnment will follow in Macedonia Memorial Park
