Homero "Hero" Gonzalez
September 21, 1951 – November 7, 2025
Our beloved Homero "Hero" Gonzalez, 74, of Laredo, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on November 7, 2025. He was born and raised in Laredo, where he spent his life surrounded by the people he loved most.
2 Timothy 4:7
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful."
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Irma Gonzalez, who stood faithfully by his side through every joy and challenge of life. Together, they built a beautiful family and a legacy of love. He leaves behind his daughter Graciela Gonzalez; his sons Homero (Laura) Gonzalez, Eduardo (Cynthia) Gonzalez, and Carlos David Gonzalez; and his treasured grandchildren - Homero III, Joshua, Eduardo (Lalo), Hannah, Leila, and Lucas - who were truly the light of his life. He is also survived by his siblings Sandra (Hector) Sanchez, Ramiro Gonzalez, and Yolanda Gonzalez, and is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, brother, and his loyal dog, Max.
Homero's strong work ethic and determination defined him from a young age. In his early married years, he worked as a newspaper carrier, and his children still remember riding along in the newspaper baskets as he made his deliveries - joyful moments filled with laughter and love. Later, he began a long and dedicated career in the oilfield industry with Schlumberger, where his tireless effort and dependability earned him the nickname "Hero." It was a name that fit him perfectly - not only for how hard he worked, but for how he lived: always putting others before himself.
After retiring, Homero embraced life to the fullest. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing softball, poker, and dominos, and was always up for a good laugh or a road trip.
Homero's faith was the foundation of his life. He loved the Lord with all his heart and joyfully served alongside Irma in many church ministries. His love for God was evident in the way he treated others - with kindness, generosity, and a helping hand for anyone in need.
To his family and friends, Homero was the rock - the first person you'd call when you needed advice, help, or simply someone to make you laugh when life felt heavy. He always found a way to figure things out, no matter how tough things got.
He was funny, loyal, and hardworking, but above all, he was a man who loved deeply. He was his children's and grandchildren's biggest cheerleader, rarely missing a single game, recital, or event. His presence, his laugh, and his unwavering love will forever be missed, but his spirit and faith will continue to guide all who loved him.
