John Ros Obituary

We mourn the loss of the Honorable Judge John C. Ross, Jr., who passed away peacefully on August 19, 2024, at The University of Mississippi Medical Center. Born on September 11, 1942, to John Curlee Sr. and Mary Claire Tuxford Ross; Judge Ross dedicated his life to serving his community and upholding the law.

Judge Ross, Johnny to his family and friends, graduated from Corinth High School in 1960 and received his law degree from The University of Mississippi in 1968. He was a lifelong member of the First Methodist Church in Corinth, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and past chairman of the council.

Judge Ross, dedicated his life to public service. He held a private law practice from 1968 to 1990. He served as a 1st District Chancery Court Judge from 1991-2002, in addition to Justice Court Judge and Youth Court Judge of Alcorn County, and Municipal Court Judge of Farmington.

Judge Ross's commitment to public service extended beyond the courtroom, representing Alcorn, Benton, and Tippah Counties as a Mississippi State Legislator. He was also actively involved in community organizations, serving on the Board of Directors for the Crossroads Museum and as president and board member of the Jacinto Foundation. Additionally, he was a longtime member and former president of the Alliance, formerly the Chamber of Commerce.

He served as the administrator for Henry Cemetery from 1978 until his passing.

Judge Ross was a man of great character, known for his kindness, compassion, and unwavering integrity.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Anne Caver (Bill); niece, Maggie Christopher (Josh); nephew, Walker Caver (Madison); 8 great nieces and nephews; as well as host of extended family and friends.

An informal gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the CARE Honor Garden and Depot in downtown Corinth, Mississippi, beginning at two o'clock in the afternoon.
