ST. AUGUSTINE, FL/WORCESTER - Hope W. Lonstein, 72, formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully at Community Hospice - Bailey Center for Caring in St. Augustine, Florida, surrounded by the love and care of dedicated staff, after a prolonged illness. Born and raised in Worcester, Hope was the daughter of Sydney S. and Ruth G. (Lund) Lonstein and spent the last 6 years of her retirement in St. Augustine.
Hope graduated from Doherty Memorial High School, class of 1969, and continued her education, earning a bachelor's degree from Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, NH. She further pursued her studies at the University of St. Petersburg where she received a master's degree. For over 20 years, she dedicated herself to a successful career as a realtor in the Boston area.
Hope cherished her companion and best friend, Cassie, a Shetland sheepdog (Sheltie). She enjoyed playing mahjong with her dear friends, especially expressing gratitude to Dee Smith and Kathy Junell for their care and compassion during Hope's illness. Her circle of friends extended throughout Coquina Crossing in Elkton, Florida, where she was known and loved.
Hope will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by a sister, Joan G. (Lonstein) Gaffin, and her husband, Gary, of Delray Beach, Florida, and a brother, Richard J. Lonstein of Mashpee. She is also survived by two cousins, Merri I. Baker of Delray Beach, and Charlene Perron of Worcester, as well as several nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by her parents, Sydney and Ruth Lonstein, a sister, Sandra L. Lonstein Hall, and a brother, David B. Lonstein.
A graveside service in remembrance of Hope's life will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, December 21, at B'nai Brith Cemetery in Worcester. Rabbi Shmuel Fogelman will be officiating.
